Butylparaben
Also: butyl 4-hydroxybenzoate · butyl parahydroxybenzoate · butyl p-hydroxybenzoate
Avoid — the most potent estrogenic paraben; rodent studies show reduced sperm count and testosterone.
Testosterone & hormonal load
Butylparaben is the most estrogenic of the common parabens. Rodent studies demonstrate dose-dependent reductions in sperm production, testosterone levels, and testicular weight. It is more lipophilic than shorter-chain parabens, leading to greater bioaccumulation. The EU has restricted its use in cosmetics applied to the diaper area in children under 3.
