01 · Hormonal impact

Testosterone & hormonal load

Evidence
StrongMultiple human or large-scale animal studies

Triclosan interferes with thyroid hormone signaling by inhibiting sulfotransferase enzymes responsible for T3/T4 metabolism. Multiple animal studies demonstrate reduced testosterone levels and altered reproductive organ weights. Human biomonitoring links higher urinary triclosan to lower serum testosterone in adolescent boys. FDA banned its use in consumer antiseptic washes in 2016 citing endocrine and antimicrobial resistance concerns.
